Attendance
Student Attendance Policy
Students must be in attendance at least one-half of the school day to be considered present. Students leaving school before 12:30pm or the equivalent of three complete class periods and not returning will be considered absent for the day. On the day following the absence(s), students are required to give their excuse notes to the front office. These notes must be turned in DAILY to the Administrative Assistant, Bertha Mena.
POWERSCHOOL ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
Attendance must be completed in PowerSchool within the first 30 minutes of class. Teachers are responsible for making sure that the attendance is completed by this time. Due to state accountability laws, it is imperative that this information be recorded accurately. An automated message will be sent to the parents/guardians of students not in attendance daily. The message will instruct parents/guardians to submit excuses and/or discrepancies pertaining to the students’ absences to homeroom teachers. Excuse notes must be turned in to the front office daily.
MAINTAINING ATTENDANCE RECORDS
Keep accurate attendance for all classes during the school year. Attendance records can be printed through PowerSchool and kept by all teachers in their classroom.
For the first ten (10) days of school, please follow the procedures below:
Attendance will be taken on a daily sheet as well as an E1 sheet provided to teachers by the Data Manager. E1 sheets and the daily sheets should correspond accurately. PowerSchool changes will not occur for any reason until after Day 10.
EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
Absences are of two types – excused and unexcused. Excused absences are defined by the state as the following:
Any absence not meeting the requirements of an excused absence shall be an unexcused absence. Parents will be notified of unexcused absences as follows:
MAKE-UP WORK
All make-up work for absences must be completed within a time period of one day for each day absent (for absences from one to three days), or two days for each day absent (for absences exceeding three days).
Homework assignments may be requested when students miss two consecutive days through the front office or guidance counselors. Teachers are allowed 24 hours to gather make-up work assignments and return all materials to the front office to be picked up.
